Stefania Giannini: “UNESCO supports Uzbekistan in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”

On November 14-16 this year, Tashkent hosts a World Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education. As part of the event, which was held in cooperation with UNESCO and the Ministry of Preschool Education, a meeting was held with the head of the State Inspectorate for Supervision of the Quality of Education Ulugbek Tashkenbaev and UNESCO Deputy Director General for Education Stefania Giannini. At the beginning of the meeting, the head of the Inspectorate for Education, Ulugbek Tashkenbaev, thanked the high-ranking guest for the discussion and shared his opinion on the current state of their relations and plans for the future. “First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to you and your team on behalf of the Government of Uzbekistan for your massive contribution to the organization of this conference at a high level. This year, cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNESCO has reached a new level, both in terms of quality and quantity. As you know, under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the education system is being transformed based on the principles of developing human capital, preparing young people for life, and covering each link. In particular, this year alone, many important initiatives and reforms have been carried out in cooperation with the Education Inspectorate and UNESCO. Based on the call of the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in cooperation with the UNESCO office in Tashkent, national consultations were organized, involving all stakeholders, particularly young people, to transform education, achieve sustainable development goals and address the adverse effects of the pandemic on education. As a result of national consultations, the National Statement of Uzbekistan on the transformation of education was adopted, which was presented in September 2022 at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York at the Transforming Education Summit. As a result of the transformation of the higher education system in Uzbekistan, based on international experience, the necessary conditions were created for the country to join the Tokyo and Global conventions. The necessary measures were also identified to transform universities from an organization for training personnel for the labour market into an organization that prepares a person with active citizenship in society and contributes to providing graduates with decent employment several times throughout their lives. Of course, ensuring that the work will be continued is very important. Therefore, the further development of our cooperation will be beneficial to both parties”, emphasized Ulugbek Tashkenbaev. In turn, Ms Stefania Giannini, UNESCO Deputy Director General for Education, shared her thoughts on this matter, recognizing the work carried out by the Education Inspectorate in our country in this direction.
